LIVE DEBATE - RAILA VS KIBAKI
|
Raila's invitation to Kibaki for a live debate may be an acceptable democratic gesture but anyone who thought Kibaki would oblidge (including Raila himself) would have been engaging in wishful thinking.
With the trouble Kibaki encounters just to come up with a sensible statement 'off the cuff' during public rallies, it would have been hell for hioms should he have allowed himself come under impromptu attacks from journalists and the public.
Whatever reasons he gave, i would say his strategists were wise to reject the call since it would have done a lot of damage to his campaigns.

STOLEN ELECTION
|
Kenyans have always said that they will never accept a stolen election. These comments have been repeatedly made by the two opposition candidates (one pictured here). This, therefore, points out to the possibility of this election being rigged.
Can this election be rigged? What mechanisms for redress do we have if such an eventuality occurs?
Will you accept a stolen election? What will you do if it happens?

I AM HIV NEGATIVE, WHAT ABOUT YOU?
|
Well, after the much hyped HIV testing week begun, i challenged myself for the test and slowly headed to the center located at St. Pauls University Chapel.
The counselling went on well (infact, it felt like i was the one counselling the counsellor). When blood was drawn from my finger and put in the testing kits, tension filled the air as silence engulfed the room. After what seemed like an eternity, the results were out and as i expected, they were negative.
The tension should not in any way be taken to mean that i wasnt sure about my status, but even the surest of them all will be wondering what result may be recorded in the test, its probably the toughest moment of the whole period.
Should i challange all ye to go out and confirm your status? Take control of your life.

ASSISTANT MINISTER IS GUILTY
|
Well, with the recent finding of crude weapons in an assistant minister's vehicle, it saddens me whenever i try to imagine who those weapons were going to be used against. People in this country are willing to sacrifise lives of other human beings for the sole purpose of winning a general election.
The usual denials followed from the minister but any sane Kenyan does not need to be told that the weapons were his baggage being transpoted in his car by his driver and staff members. He is guilty.
Its time Kenyans stood up and voted such crude animals out of our law making institutions.

KANYE AND 50 WARS
|
It was exhilirating to witness the war between 50 Cent and Kanye West over who was to sell more albums than the other. 50 went ahead and said that he would quit should Kanye beat him. Well he was beaten, bady indeed and i am sitting pretty waiting for him to announce his retirement from music.
But i am keen to note that Kanye had actually begged 50, during a televised interview, not to quit music since he would miss him alot (this was before the launch of their albums) Probably 50 has heeded Kanye's cries and decided to keep on making hits.
Poor 50 Cent.

MAJIMBO-WHO IS FOOLING WHO????
Related to country: Kenya About this category: Human Rights
|
Call it Majimbo, Utaguzi or even devolution, this is a system of government that all Kenyans want. They even say it everyday in the news, from the government to the opposition. Why is it that the government is working overtime to discredit the opposition for fronting a system of government that they also wasnt to install? The government looks so foolish to be disagreeing with majimbo yet they go ahead and say they will implement devolution. Its time they stopped the bashing so that we all move towards the right direction.

jelly spring
|
Current mood: calm
the sun is shining
tendering soft skins of young dog walkers
massaging wrinkles of aging lovers
walking across the bridge
lifting myself on the top of my toes with short nails
painted blue inside wool socks
watching water breaking ice
invisibly
the striking force of softness
shattering pieces by pieces that strong icy glass
wandering what's hiding under melting ice
maybe dead green crococile defrosting
maybe jelly balls falling out from tiny grey toad's belly
broken open into tadpoles into the world of tiny grey toads
maybe tiny fishes bleeding their silver tails inside big ones' estomagos
or swept into fisherman's net at the end of their journey
where Ontanabee river run into some blue sea
reincarnated into sushi
maybe a world's sleeping
maybe a world's cracking under the ice so cristalline
I am
in my time on my toes
one foot gave in to the law of gravity
one foot rabelled to flow with serenity
busy watching the beauty
busy wandering the unknown
too busy to hear the cracking, the withering, the blooming, the tide raising, the river flowing inside
me.

i ate a delicious red apple today
|
delicious red apple of that suckass cafe
Current mood: calm
I don't like the word "hurt" cuz it is so abstract yet so simplified. I can't neither touch nor comprehend sometimes what that word means. It can't neither touch nor express all that messy surreal orginal labrynth of human feelings either. I ate a delicious red apple today. Sweet and crispy to the point of perfection in my simple standard. Everything's turning. I watched water breaking ice. Sky was grey. I punched a hole and threw a piece of circle from my lifescape. It hurt. Metaphorically so, but just like that insane movie eternal sunshine in the spotless mind, i will be missing this piece and it will chase my memory on and off. Season always changes. So do lovers and friends. So do I. Sad and beautiful simultaneously, my life isn't the red apple. But i guess that's ok.
Delicious like red apple we were. I bite into the sweetness. Ate slowly. No matter how you tried to keep munching, i wanted to finish eating the damn apple. It's not that apple isn't perfect. It is just I' m not red apple, not even close to perfection. I keep escaping to... where... I don't even know. But I do it anyway.
Apple's gone, only seed left. I threw the seed. You tasted bitterness. Some sweetness still lingered on my tongue. But soon would be gone. Seed would grow into something beautiful even without me seeing it.
I am writing an exciting essay with wonderful company of mocha and bagels on a not so exciting reality of women and war.
Poetry is good though. Like this one..
The Invitation by Oriah Mountain Dreamer
It doesn't interest me what you do for a living.
I want to know what you ache for
and if you dare to dream of meeting your heart's longing.
It doesn't interest me how old you are.
I want to know if you will risk looking like a fool
for love
for your dream
for the adventure of being alive.
It doesn't interest me what planets are squaring your moon...
I want to know if you have touched the centre of your own sorrow
if you have been opened by life's betrayals
or have become shrivelled and closed
from fear of further pain.
I want to know if you can sit with pain
mine or your own
without moving to hide it
or fade it
or fix it.
I want to know if you can be with joy
mine or your own
if you can dance with wildness
and let the ecstasy fill you to the tips of your fingers and toes
without cautioning us
to be careful
to be realistic
to remember the limitations of being human.
It doesn't interest me if the story you are telling me
is true.
I want to know if you can
disappoint another
to be true to yourself.
If you can bear the accusation of betrayal
and not betray your own soul.
If you can be faithless
and therefore trustworthy.
I want to know if you can see Beauty
even when it is not pretty
every day.
And if you can source your own life
from its presence.
I want to know if you can live with failure
yours and mine
and still stand at the edge of the lake
and shout to the silver of the full moon ,"Yes."
It doesn't interest me
to know where you live or how much money you have.
I want to know if you can get up
after the night of grief and despair
weary and bruised to the bone
and do what needs to be done
to feed the children.
It doesn't interest me who you know
or how you came to be here.
I want to know if you will standin the centre of the fire
with me
and not shrink back.
It doesn't interest me where or what or with whom
you have studied.
I want to know what sustains you
from the inside
when all else falls away.
I want to know if you can be alone
with yourself
and if you truly like the company you keep
in the empty moments.

THE LECTURE YOU GIVE
|
The lecture you give, might be wise and true
But i'd rather take my advice, by observing what you do
For i might mis understand you, and the wise advice that you give
But there is no misunderstanding, with what you do and how you live.

SAD DAY FOR KENYA
|
AS THE OFFICIAL LEADER OF THE OPPOSITION, UHURU KENYATTA, PUT IT TODAY, IT IS REALLY A SAD DAY FOR OUR COUNTRY, OUR FREEDOM, OUR DEMOCRACY AND ITS A BIG SHAME FOR THE GOVERNMENT TO HAVE GONE TO SUCH AN EXTENT.
I AM, LIKE EVRYONE ELSE, SO MUCH AGAINST NEWSPAPERS PUBLISHING FABRICATED STORIES. BUT WE HAVE TO REALISE ITS THE SAME POLITICIANS, WHILE PLAYING THEIR POLITICAL GAMES, GO OUT PAYING JOURNALISTS TO FABRICATE STORIES. WITH THIS, I AM NOT DISMISSING THE FACT THAT KALONZO MAY HAVE ACTUALLY VISITED STATE HOUSE. THESE STORIES ARE SOMETIMES TRUE.
BUT STILL, THERE ARE CHANNELS WHICH CAN BE USED TO ADDRESS THESE ISSUES. WE HAVE A MEDIA COUNCIL THAT CAN DEAL WITH DISCIPLINARY CASES AGAINST JOURNALISTS. WE HAVE COURTS WHICH CAN DECIDE ON SUCH ISSUES. THE GOVERNMENT SHOULDN HAVE GONE THAT WAY.
IN THE LIST OF COUNTRIES WHICH HAVE THE LEAST MEDIA FREEDOM, CHINA IS AMONG THE TOP TEN. iT WILL BE SCARY TO NOTE THAT THIS IS THE WAY THAT CHINA ACTUALLY BEGUN. THEIR MEDIA IS NOT FREE.
WE NEED FREE MEDIA AND THE GOVERNMENT DID IT ALL THE WRONG WAY.
